KUCHING: The public believe that the government has allowed and satisfied enough number of essential services to operate during the movement control order (MCO) period since March 18.

This does not mean that everybody is happy with what has been decided and what has been going on. Most people in this category think that automotive and telecommunication services/sector should also be given permission to open their businesses.

Leandro Mcrae, 24 (cleaning business owner)

‘If possible, allow hardware stores, car/motorcycle workshops and electronic stores to open every day like other essential services instead of just two days a week.

‘It would be great to have telecommunication shops open for people to get help if anything goes wrong with your phones. You can go online, but sometimes you can’t even connect to the services. It can take hours just to go through to customer service.’

Muhamad Daneal Jamali, 36 (a company’s head of corporate affairs and marketing)

‘If the government decided to extend the MCO, one of the most necessary people are delivery runners for groceries and other essential goods. Hope the government can fine tune this to minimise the movements of people.

“I believe the four sectors/services that should be allowed to operate are security (patrolling of neighbourhoods at odd hours), telecommunication, and the Department of Environment (to monitor open burning.’

Akifi Hanee Rajali, 23 (student)

‘I believe that three sectors should be allowed to operate – factories processing agricultural produce, farming and other agricultural activities, and automotive repair/service workshops. The government should allow the sale of vegetables and other raw food at set times for ease of control.’

Wan Muhammad Rusydi, 26 (student)

‘What need to operate every day is the automotive sector – service/repair workshops, spare part shops, and related businesses.’

Amanda Nantie Benjamin, 24 (operations executive)

‘I say, on those essential services that are already allowed to operate may open, and they need to stick to all the safety precautions such as social distancing.’

Agatha Rendu Sungom, 24 (student)

‘I believe the sectors that are also critical for the general public are medical and healthcare services, electricity and related necessities, banking and finance and telecommunication.’
