SIBU: Open University Malaysia (OUM) Sibu Learning Center has hosted a learning skills workshop (BKB) for new students of September 2019 intake at the university’s campus here, last Saturday.

The workshop aimed to provide early guidance to the new students and deliver important information before the learning session begins.

It included university policies and regulations, academic regulations, learning system and introduction to ‘myInspire’ — OUM’s online learning delivery platform.

The talk was presented by OUM Sibu Learning Center director Joshua Mariyam Duum.

According to Joshua, the workshop was held to ensure that the new students will receive important information on the courses they are taking as well as other requirements to be aware of.

“They need guidance on how to access ‘myInspire’ and understand the other online services which are key elements of the OUM learning system,” Joshua said in a press release.

Also held during the workshop was a talk on Employees Provident Fund (EPF) presented by EPF Sibu Branch officer Sapian Atot in which he explained the procedures and processes of EPF application for the purpose of funding tuition fees.

Outstanding senior student, Muda Prinching, who is in his Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resource Management, was also present to share his experiences to the students such as his advice in overcoming challenges, learning techniques and time management.

“The OUM learning system is flexible but we have to be smart about managing time between study, work and family,” said Muda.

OUM is an Open and Distance Learning (ODL) university which offers part-time education. With classes on weekends and through online platform, this mode of learning gives the working class an opportunity to learn while working.

“The new student’s registration for the September intake is still open until Oct 20. Therefore, we invite the working class and those who wish to continue their studies to register as soon as possible,” Joshua added.
