KUCHING: Constitutionally Sarawak boundaries including its economic zone cannot be altered without the consent of the State Legislative Assembly, said Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri James Jemut Masing.

“For now, while we (Gabungan Parti Sarawak – GPS) are in control of the legislature, any attempt to change the state’s boundaries can be prevented,” he told New Sarawak Tribune, yesterday.

He said under the prevailing Sarawak-Malaya relationship, if and when the state legislature is taken over by another party or coalition of parties such as Pakatan Harapan (PH), then laws passed in Parliament to override Sarawak laws cannot be stopped.

“We will be finished if Sarawakians allow that to happen. Our destiny is literally in our own hands,” he stressed firmly.
