KUCHING: In addition to having some frightening impact on humans, the 2019 novel Coronavirus (2019-nCov) which broke out in Wuhan, China has also affected the prices of computers and accessories.

This is because China is one of the biggest manufacturers of computers, smart phones and their accessories. Thus any shortage or delay of supplies from the country has immediate effect on local computer shops.

A computer salesman and service provider, Kevin Liew, said the prices of computers, laptops, accessories and spare parts had gone up drastically due to limited stocks and supplies.

According to him, the rate of increase was quite high and stocks were running out.

“The coronavirus had greatly affected the movement of dwindling supplies such as computers, laptops, accessories and spare parts from China.

“Besides that, prices have been marked up by suppliers,” he told New Sarawak Tribune.

Liew added that on the other hand, certain companies, especially shipping companies, have temporarily cut ties with the suppliers or manufacturers. They fear the spread of the virus.
