KUCHING: The Sarawak government will develop the outer Kuching road covering areas between Serian and Kuching.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said there are advantages for the people because they have basic infrastructure for developing agriculture in the area.

“The accurate term is not southern belt, but outer Kuching area because it is part and parcel of Kuching outer area,” he told reporters when asked to comment on development for the area during Gawai Dayak 2019 open house at the Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA) Hall, yesterday.

Abang Johari said the development of outer Kuching is different from the one under the Integrated Regional Samarahan Development Agency (IRSDA) which reaches up to Sebuyau.

“The area to be developed is between Serian and Kuching because Serian is a division and it has its own master plan that can be connected to outer Kuching.

“Which is why we want to transform the Samarahan road right up to Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) and to the outer Kuching road,” he said.

He said this is what is being planned and it will spearhead greater development for Sarawak.
