KUCHING: More than 100 people participated in a National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) event at Taman Dahlia Matang Flats here yesterday.

Sarawak AADK director Iskandar Turkee said the programme was aimed at curbing social problems related to drug abuse in the community.

“Drug abuse in the community is not a new thing. It requires the right approach to guide the individuals involved in the problem.

“This is because not all former addicts or individuals involved in this problem will go back to their old habits.”

According to him, there were some individuals who had changed and even gone on to become successful people after receiving guidance.

He said drug abuse was caused by various factors and regardless of family status and background.

“Families should not feel ashamed to bring their children (involved in drug abuse) to the AADK so that they can be helped immediately.”

Also present were Taman Dahlia headman Harun Majid and several officers involved in organising the programme.
