Over 200 compete in annual Sarawak Adventure Challenge

On track of the Sarawak Adventure Challenge.

KUCHING: A total of 250 people joined the fourth edition of the annual Sarawak Adventure Challenge that was flagged off from the Lobang Batu community hall last Saturday (Oct 10).

Themed ‘The Jade Cave’, this year’s race featured the stunning scenery of the area, including the spectacular Silabur Cave.

Organised by Draco Action Sports of Kuching, the Sarawak Adventure Challenge aimed to promote Sarawak’s spectacular scenery, tourism attractions and activities.

Set in the Serian District, the challenging race featured a variety of trails passing through local communities, orchards and plantations, with the Silabur Mountain as backdrop.

According to a statement, there were two main disciplines — mountain biking and trail running and some 14 events.

The main Duathlon event comprised a 40+ km mountain bike ride followed by a 12km trail run that included a section through the Silabur Cave.

There were additional categories for men, women and veterans, including a Sprint Duathlon, a trail run of 12km and a 20+ and 40+ km mountain bike race.

The first full Duathlon competitor to cross the finishing line was from the Men’s Veteran category – Hardy Suntol, with time of 5hr 14min.

The Men’s Open Duathlon category was won by Mohd Safuwan Mohamddin with a time of 5.31:14, while the Men’s Duathlon Team event was won by Lee Yong Hui and Charles Kin Diking with a time of 5.57:16.

The Mixed Duathlon Team event (one man and one woman) was won by Nik Nadila and Laurel Lauridsen with a time of 6.20:57.
