TANJUNG MANIS: More than 2,000 people have visited the ‘Pesta Belawai 2018’ since its opening on 30 August, 2018. Many activities are being held during the festival which will be held until 9 September such as stage shows, fishing and Karaoke singing competitions, beauty pageant, ‘bermukun’, kite-flying demos and many others.

A visitor to the festival , Jamaluddin Abdul Rahim, 30, said that the festival could become an attraction for both foreign tourists and visitors from throughout the state. He pointed out that this was due to the fact that many local traditional activities are being shown at the fesitval.

“Positive response from the public shows that this festival has its own unique attraction and more new activities should be organised during the festival to draw more visitors,” he pointed out.

Meanwhile, an entrepreneur, Iskandar Bolhassan, 30, said locals are looking forward to the opportunity to increase their income during the festival. He added that the government’s initiative to improve Belawai beach by building facilities for the festival has greatly benefited the locals. “Compared to last year, Belawai beach is now more interesting as many new facilities have been built for the visitors’ convenience.

“The business is tiring but worth it because the response from the public this time is what convinced us to continue doing it which also helps to increase our income,” he said.

The upgrading of infrastructure facilities at Belawai beach is not only providing long term benefits to the locals but also has the potential to attract more foreign tourists to help boost the local economy.
