Over 300 mourners at Dr Wong’s funeral service

KUCHING: More than 300 mourners including several VIPs and SUPP members attended former Deputy Chief Minister and former president of Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP), the late Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr Wong Soon Kai’s funeral service held at Trinity Methodist Church at Ellis Road here yesterday.

The atmosphere in the chuch was filled with sadness as the funeral service proceeded. The touching eulogy read by his eldest son Dr Wong Chee Liang indicated that the late Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr Wong Soon Kai had lived a full life. He added that his father had undergone a very fruitful life with his family and friends.

“He loved to play golf, even after retirement, he never retired from playing golf and loved to have coffee with his friends,” Dr Wong said. In remembering his father, Liang’s eulogy was peppered with humorous memories of his father.

Meanwhile, his daughter, Dr Wong Chee May expressed her appreciation and gratitude to the support and presence of the public and Sarawak United People’s Par ty (SUPP) leaders. “I would like to thank everyone who had visited him and who came to show their last respects today,” she said.

Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr Wong Soon Kai leaves behind his wife Datin Patinggi Datuk Seri Dr Jane Yong, three children Dr Wong Chee Liang, Dr Wong Chee May and Wong Chee Ling, and six grandchildren to mourn his death.

After the funeral service the cortege proceeded to Nirvana Memorial Park Bau for cremation and burial. Former Deputy Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr Wong Soon Kai passed away peacefully in his residence here on 22 March at around 4.00 am.
