KUCHING: A total of 4,182 parcels of food aid are being distributed to 126 longhouses in the Mulu constituency.
Its assemblyman Datuk Gerawat Gala said 3,354 of the parcels have been delivered to the longhouses by road and boats in the Kayan and Orang Ulu areas as of yesterday.
“The remaining food parcels are being delivered by Royal Malaysian Air Force (TUDM) helicopter today and tomorrow (April 6) to 44 longhouses and villages which are not easily accessible.
“The food parcels are being sent to five distribution centres to be distributed to the surrounding longhouses and villages,” he said in a statement yesterday.
Gerawat said arrangements have been made for the local committees and helpers at these five distribution centres to arrange for distribution of food parcels.
He thanked TUDM for expediting the delivery of the food aid to the people in the remote areas of Mulu.
“Without the prompt and generous assistance from TUDM, it would have taken much longer to deliver these food aids to our rural people,” he added.
