Over 500 PPR homes for B40 in Lambir

BINTULU: The government has constructed 505 housing units under the “Program Perumahan Rakyat” (PPR) in Lambir, Miri in an effort to help the low-income (B40) group.

Deputy Minister of Local Government Development, Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir said under PPR, a total of 4,791 housing units in 12 completed projects and one project still under construction involving 461 housing units in Sarawak.

He said this when replying to a question from Miri Member of Parliament Chiew Choon Man at a recent Parliament session.

Akmal Nasrullah explained that as an effort to help the B40 group in Sarawak, the government through the Ministry of Local Government Development (KPKT) has implemented two main programmes especially in the city of Miri.

These are the “Program Perumahan Rakyat” (PPR) and the “Program Rumah Mesra Rakyat” (RMR).

He said the RMR programme is managed by Syarikat Perumahan Negara Berhad (SPNB) which benefits the B40 group who have their own land or land belonging to family members who have obtained permission for their house to be constructed on the site.

“Until now, there are 2,217 RMR units that have been completed and 95 units that are still under construction. In Miri, there are 50 RMR units that have been completed and one unit under construction.

“In total, there are 7,008 housing units that have been completed, benefiting approximately 28,000 residents.

According to Akmal, based on the records of the Sarawak Ministry of Public Health, Housing and Local Government, there are 1,741 heads of households living in slums in Miri city involving a total of 9,462 family members.

In the meantime, he said his ministry intends to continue working closely with the Sarawak Government to ensure that the people in the state have access to quality and affordable housing.
