Over 5,000 Christians to take part in Saturday’s Christmas parade

KUCHING: More than 5,000 Christians will be participating in the Kuching City Christmas Parade this Saturday (Dec 3).

Organised by Association of Churches Sarawak (ACS) alongside Sarawak Ecumenical Christian Association (SECA) with its theme “God’s Love”, some of the participating churches are from the Roman Catholic church, Anglican church, Borneo Evangelical Mission (SIB) church, Seventh-Day Adventist church and The Salvation Army.

Chin Fu Methodist Church (SCAC) is the host for this year’s parade.

ACS secretary-general Ambrose Linang called on all the population of Kuching to celebrate Christmas together in peace and harmony.

“Let the spirit of goodwill reclaim centre stage among all races of different beliefs and cultures and not allow racial polarisation and religious extremism to destroy the fabric of our society.”

He was speaking at a press conference here on Today (Dec 1).

The parade members are advised to assemble at Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Jubilee ground at 6pm and the parade will begin at 7pm.

Parade members are also encouraged to prepare Christmas gifts, which will be distributed to the public at 8.15pm during the parade. Street performances are also carried out during the parade.

The Boys Brigade and Girls Brigade are sending four bands. Fourteen colourful Christmas floats will also be on show.

The routes are MBKS Jubilee Ground-Jalan Padungan-Jalan Tun Abdul Rahim (Waterfront)-Lebuh Temple (Harbour View Hotel)-Lebuh Wayang (Medan Pelita / Star Cineplex)-Jalan Tabuan (Borneo Hotel)-Jalan Ban Hock (Grand Continental Hotel / MBKS flats) and back to MBKS Jubilee Ground.
