KUCHING: The state government has received the first batch of 4,200 surgical masks and 1,000 KN95 medical masks from China universities.

According to Asia China Education and Culture (ACEC) Association, the donated items were from Anhui Medical University, Soochow University, China Pharmaceutical University and ACEC Association.

“These supplies bear the blessings and concerns of the universities that had overcome some difficulties during the MCO period.

“The efforts were made by multiple parties to solve the problems due to Customs clearance delay and logistical issues before finally arriving in Kuching on April 25,” said ACEC.

ACEC expressed gratitude to the universities for making the arrangements to transport the medical supplies here.

“We are thankful for the donations which reflect the deep friendship between the China higher education community and their Malaysian partners,” it said.

The masks will be distributed to the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Sarawak, Chung Hua Middle School, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Batu Lintang, SMK St Joseph, SMK Sungai Tapang and other ACEC secondary schools partners as soon as possible, said ACEC.
