KUCHING: More than 5,000 Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) members from all over the state will converge for a special gathering to honour three of the party’s past leaders.

According to Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg, the three will be former Chief Ministers Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and the late Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem and former Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu Numpang.

Johari, who is also the PBB president added that all three have contributed a lot to not only the party, but also to the state.

He said that Taib, who is now the Head of State, brought a lot of development to the state during his long years as Chief Minister and was also synonym with the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE).

Jabu, who has served for many years as well, worked hard to bring the Bumiputera in one direction as he was passionate about rural areas; trying to bring development and awareness among the community of the importance of unity and knowledge.

As for the late Adenan, despite his short period as leader of the state, he had accomplished a lot with his people-centric approaches which led to Barisan Nasional (BN) winning a large majority of seats in the last State Election.

“This is the culture we have in PBB and we want to say

thank you and convey our appreciation to what the past leaders have done to PBB and, by extension, to Sarawak.

“These three have contributed to the party’s strength and have united the people of various races and religions, which helped us move forward in bringing Sarawak to a higher level,” he said.

Johari said that the PBB lineup now can be considered as the second generation as they have all been leaders of the Youth wing before, who were given the training needed to confidently pursue what was laid down by past leaders.

“I think with our experience, we can continue with that particular struggle although the environment has changed with the likes of social media and the fact that the people are more aware.

“As leaders today, we have to match with the hope of the young and I feel that my friends in PBB and I will do our best to do that and adapt to the changing ecosystem while at the same time, not forgetting what those before us have done.

“We are loyal to the party’s leadership and fight; that is our essence and we will continue

through a team that is united if we want to develop the state by 2030,” he said.

The gathering, with the theme ‘Jasamu Dikenang’, will be held next month on the 6th at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK), which will also be held in conjunction with the PBB Convention.

This was revealed during a press conference after the PBB Supreme Council Meeting at the party’s headquarters yesterday.
