KUCHING: More than 60 percent of the population in the Batang Sadong parliamentary constituency have received two doses of the Covid-19 vaccines.
Federal Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri lauded the awareness of the locals on the importance of vaccination to protect themselves from Covid-19.
She was interviewed on The Dominique Wong Show on Friday night (July 30).
Nancy said the state government had scaled up its vaccine rollout massively to the people in view of a possible state election.
The MP said among the other challenges was ensuring that the Covid-19 vaccines could be administered to those staying in rural areas.
“Our Chief Minister is aware that one of the challenges is the logistics of the vaccine rollout. What we did is just go from one longhouse to another.
“The frontliners — the doctors, nurses and those uniform bodies — are also going from house to house to ensure the people are vaccinated,” she said.
Meanwhile, on the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (NCIP), Nancy also said the national vaccine rollout rate was picking up quickly.
“Under the Federal Tourism, Arts and Culture (Motac) Ministry, we are also assisting – we are asking for more vaccine doses from the Health Ministry for us administer the vaccines to the islands such as Langkawi and Pangkor.
“Up until now, the vaccine turnout has been encouraging and this was made possible by the hard work of the civil servants, non-government organisations (NGOs) and community leaders,” she said.
