KUCHING: A total of 6,772 families in the Marudi constituency received essential food items to alleviate their burden during the movement control order (MCO).
Local Government assistant minister Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil said the food items were distributed to representatives of each village.
“To help rural dwellers during this difficult time, both Baram MP Anyi Ngau with the help from Marudi and Beluru district offices will distribute food aid to all longhouses and villages in N76 Marudi.
“Today, the distribution already started at the Marudi town to shop house renters, Malay and Chinese villages and nearby longhouses,” he said in a Facebook post on Friday.
Penguang said for the areas of Bakong, Beluru and Tinjar, four distribution sessions took place from yesterday till today.
“I appeal to the village representatives to not come in flocks, and it is adequate to just send a few persons with two or three pickup trucks to carry the items, based on the amount for each village.
“It is also crucial that all of you wait in turns, practise social distancing, do not gather and wash your hands at the places provided by the staff at the centre,” he said.
He also hoped with the food aid, it can help the villagers go through the MCO period.
