KUCHING: How much do Malaysians trust the police? According to a survey conducted by a PhD candidate here recently, the trust level is 80.9 percent.

The survey which covered 500 respondents was based on eight criteria, said Sarawak Community Policing Association (SCPA) in a media statement released yesterday.

The assessments were made on response time; police accessibility and friendliness; neighbourhood safety; fairness and justice; fruitful police reports; police misbehaviour; police efficiency; and crime solving
competency.

From the study, SCPA said it was also reported that the daily interaction between citizens and the police made a great difference for the police to build trust with them.

SCPA is very proud of the police as our working relationship has been outstanding since our inception on May 28, 2015.

The new Inspector General of Police Datuk Seri Abdul Hamid Bador, has announced that he is ready to change the public
perception of the police.

SCPA is confident that under the new leadership, the police image will improve further.

The association members have witnessed police officers helping vehicle owners replace their punctured tyres; carry people’s luggage, and several other good deeds.

On a separate development, SCPA applauded the police for not issuing a summons to the owner of an illegally parked car damaged by a falling tree branch at the Sarawak General Hospital area on Wednesday.
