Dr Abdul Rahman speaks at the AgriCOP event.

KUCHING: More than RM1 billion has been set aside to develop the agricultural sector in Sarawak, said Assistant Minister of Agriculture Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail.

“A total of RM797 million was allocated by the state government while the federal government allocated almost RM400 million.

“So the total is more than RM1 billion for the agricultural sector in Sarawak by 2020,” he said when officiating at the Bukit Kota constituency Agriculture Community Outreach Programme (AgriCOP) at Kampung Pahlawan in Limbang last Wednesday.

A total of 63 participants from Kampung Pahlawan were involved in the programme which was in its fifth series in Bukit Kota.

“These farmers, breeders and fishermen are very important to the agriculture sector. That is why the state government has provided a large allocation to the Ministry of Agriculture Modernisation, Native Land and Regional Development this year,” he said.

Dr Abdul Rahman also said a total of RM3 million from the Agriculture Facilitation Fund (AFF) in 2020 had been allocated to plant several types of crops to boost food production.
