Over RM10 mln on rural development in Lawas

LAWAS: The Rural Development Ministry (KPLB) has spent RM10,020,000 last year to develop rural areas in Lawas, said Deputy Rural Minister II Datuk Henry Sum Agong.

The allocation involved various infrastructural projects such as road resurfacing project (JPD) worth RM1.59 million, social amenities projects such as repairing of bridges and basic facilities (RM1.03 million) and Hardcore Poor Housing Programme (RM5.4 million).

It also involved village road lamps (RM300,000), Desa Lestari (sustainable village) programme in Kampung Punang (RM1 million), and income increment programme for rural folks and entrepreneurs (RM500,000).

“For this year, the ministry has allocated a sum of RM6.65 billion for development, an increase of RM410 million or 6.5 percent as compared to RM6.24 billion last year.

“The ministry will ensure that all projects implemented will have a holistic impact to the people especially amidst Covid-19 pandemic.

“These projects are important to increase the rural population’s economy, provide job opportunities and stimulate the country’s economy as a whole,” he said in a statement after his visit to Lawas on Saturday (Feb 27).
