KUCHING: Petronas should not appeal against the Kuching High Court‘s decision to dismiss its judicial review application against Sarawak government on the imposition of State Sales Tax (SST).
State legal counsel Datuk Seri JC Fong who represented the Sarawak government in the court case said Petronas should instead work with the state owned Petros in developing the oil and gas industry.
“We hope with this decision, there will be no appeal. I hope Petronas, Petros and the State government will work together to help the oil and gas industry,” he told reporters when met after the court proceedings yesterday.
He said that looking at the challenging time of the oil and gas industry with the current low oil prices and global demand, both Petronas and Petros need to work together to better improve the situation.
Commenting on the High Court’s decision, Fong said it was clear that Sarawak has power to impose SST on petroleum products for exports.
