SHAH ALAM: The race to capture the 2019 Super League title is getting more interesting as Pahang stepped up challenge when they defeated PKNS FC 2-1 at Shah Alam Stadium Sunday night.

The win has enabled the squad under Dollah Salleh to keep their unbeaten record for nine matches with 21 points to keep the pressure on league leader Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) with 23 points.
The 2018 FA Cup champions chalked up their sixth win and pleased their fans who were dismayed when they drew 1-1 with PJ City FC in Kuantan last week.

In tonight’s match, Pahang came back from behind to net two goals after trailing from the 13th minute from a counterattack converted by their former player Chan Vathanaka who neatly slotted the ball in from a Kpah Sherman pass.
The Elephants’ lethal striker Dickson Nwakaeme brought much relief to the visitors when he found the equaliser in the 24th minute.

Pahang almost snatched the lead early in the second half but a beautiful attempt by Singapore’s national player, Muhammad Safuwan Baharudin struck the goalpost in the 46th minute.

The winning goal came from Ze Love in the 76th minute when he pushed the ball into the opponents’ goal to clinch three precious points for Pahang.

Speaking to reporters after the match, Dollah commended the determination of his players in controlling the game and in neutralising the counterattacks by PKNS FC as a key to tonight’s success.

“We knew of the dangerous counter moves by PKNS FC so I told my boys to concentrate on the midfield and it was effective,” he said.

Pahang will next face UKM FC in Kuala Lumpur Stadium, Cheras on Wednesday in the third round of 2019 FA Cup while PKNS FC will be meeting JDT at Tan Sri Hassan Yunos Stadium in Larkin. – Bernama
