KUCHING: A total of RM1.55 million in compensation was paid to people whose lands were taken or partly used for road building in Pakan.
Urban Development and Natural Resources Assistant Minister Datuk Len Talif Salleh presented the cheques to the owners in a ceremony today (Aug 20).
He said a total of 156 cheques were presented to 73 persons who owned land affected by a road connecting Rumah Kedit Sungai Buluh to SK Ulu Entabai Kemalih in Pakan.
“All land taken will be paid for based on assessment by the Sarawak Land and Survey Department.
“The compensations covered crops and buildings and the size of the lands at current value,” he wrote in a Facebook post today (Aug 20).
Len said the proposed road is a 10km single carriageway stretch of R3 Public Works Department (JKR) standard.
“This will boost economic activities and living standards of the locals in line with Sarawak’s objective of making rural areas attractive and developed and the people have high incomes by 2030,” he said.
Len, who is Kuala Rajang assemblyman, said such project reflects the government’s emphasis on rural development.
“This shows the intentions of the government to impact the rural people such as those in the Ulu Entabai area,” he said.
Also present during the ceremony were Meluan assemblyman Rolland Duat Jubin and Pakan assemblyman Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom.
