Pakistani man nabbed for break-in bid

KUCHING: A 33-year-old Pakistani man was arrested for attempting to break into a store at a house at Kg Masjid Jalan Datuk Ajibah Abol here earlier yesterday morning.

Members of the public who saw him made a citizen’s arrest at about 2.45am in the house before handing him over to the police.

Kuching District Police chief ACP Awang Din Awang Gani, when contacted, confirmed the incident.

He said the suspect had been detained for further investigations under Section 447 of the Penal Code and also Section 6 (1) (c) of the Immigration Act as he had no valid travel document.

Section 447 of the Penal Code carries a maximum jail term of six months or a maximum fine of RM3,000 or both if the suspect is convicted.

Under Section 6 (3) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 (Act 155), offenders are liable to a fine not exceeding RM10,000 or imprisonment of not more than 5 years or both. They are also subject to whipping of not more than 6 strokes.
