KUCHING: The Pan Borneo Highway project in Sarawak is nearing completion, but the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government won’t stop there.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the completion of the Pan Borneo Highway doesn’t mean an end to infrastructure development in Sarawak.

He assured that the GPS-led government will continue with mega-infrastructure projects.

“After completing the Pan Borneo Highway, the focus will shift to the construction of the Sarawak Coastal Road, including the Second Main Road spanning 896 kilometres from Kuching to northern Sarawak.

“The government also plans to build a road connecting Marudi town with Long Terawan, enhancing tourism in the Baram and Ulu Baram regions.

“Beyond the highway, Sarawak will continue developing roads to boost rural areas, fostering economic growth outside urban centers.

“Additionally, the Sarawak government will establish a gas pipeline network across the state, building a gas port in southern Sarawak to facilitate modern amenities and transform the economy towards green energy, including telecommunications,” he said.

He was speaking at the Pan Borneo Highway Sarawak Dreams Become Reality dinner at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) last night (Dec 3).

In light of this, he asserted that the GPS government will update Sarawak’s ecosystem, and urged local companies to have a solid financial institution to expedite project preparations, emphasising the importance of a comprehensive local ecosystem for sustainable development.

“You have a project, but if you don’t have a good financial institution, it may also slow down the project,” he added.
