PAKAN: People living in longhouses have been urged to adapt to and adopt practices under the new norm to reduce the spread of Covid-19 among them.

Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) reported on Friday (Sept 24) that Pakan assemblyman Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom stressed that certain ways of life in longhouses need to be changed.

“In this, community leaders and village chiefs (KMKK) have the role of helping the government convey the relevant information and promote the new norms among their own people,” he said.

Mawan, who spoke at Pakan District Community Policing 2021 Workshop on Thursday (Sept 23), noted that the number of positive cases in the district has increased recently.

The workshop was attended by community leaders and members of the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK).

Three main issues emphasised during the workshop were the causes and prevention of Covid-19, strengthening community policing and compliance with standard operating procedure (SOPs) to tackle Covid-19, and strengthening the governance of community leaders and JKKKs.
