KUCHING: The back-to-school mood is in full swing as parents have already started preparing before classes start on Jan 2.

Mazni Razali, a 30-year-old housewife from Asajaya, said she just started preparing her son for the new school session on Wednesday.

“This is my first year buying some of the items such as uniforms and shoes as my son will start his pre-school education at Tabika Kemas Kampung Semilang,” she said, adding that she did not set a budget.

Meanwhile, Maznah Bujang from Petra Jaya revealed that she would spend RM500 for her children’s schooling preparation.

“Normally, I buy two pairs of school uniforms and shoes. But now I only spend on my youngest son as his elder siblings are already working.

“My son will be in primary three at SK Pulo next year and I just started to buy all the items recently,” she said.

As for Rohani Salwie, a 38-year-old housewife from Beladin, she started preparing the schooling items since several days ago.

“This year I will spend on my son since his sister has finished schooling. For him, I estimate around RM200 to buy uniforms, shoes and other items.

“I’ve already bought a few items, including his school shoes. Each item will have two sets,” she said.

She added that as her son would be sitting for the PT3 examination next year in SMK Beladin, her budget would focus on his preparation for the examination.

Meanwhile, Mohd Affendi, 26, said he just started to prepare for the new session on Wednesday.

“My eldest son will be entering pre-school next year. We have allocated around RM200 to buy his uniforms, shoes, stationeries and other items,” he said.

Instead of preparing for the schooling session in Sabah, 40-year-old policeman Awang Mohd Ali from Sipitang chose to come to Kuching to prepare his children’s schooling items.

“The prices here are far cheaper and affordable compared to in Sabah. It is also a coincidence as we are having our vacation here.

“I have four children who are schooling next year. We spend RM200 on each to buy their school items,” said Awang.
