MIRI: Parents, take note: unless it’s absolutely necessary, avoid taking your children out.

Minister in charge of Miri Division Disaster Management Committee (DDMC) Datuk Lee Kim Shin said he had received reports that several parents had taken their children to the shopping malls and these children were without face masks.

“Parents need to take this matter seriously. Avoid taking children out if there is no necessity.

“It is better to stay at home during this period and avoid going to places where people would gather. Go out when it is necessary only,” he said after chairing the Miri DDMC via Zoom.

Lee, who is also the Senadin assemblyman, said that the Miri DDMC viewed with concern the drastic increase in Covid-19 positive cases in Miri Division, especially in the Miri, Subis and Beluru districts.

“As such, I am urging the cooperation of all parties to comply with the conditional movement control order (CMCO) tightened standard operating procedures (SOPs) as announced by the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC),” he said.

The state transport minister stressed that it was important for the people to play their part in complying with the SOPs to curb the spread of Covid-19.

“Last year, for a long period of time, we defended Miri as a green zone. No cases were reported then because we got the cooperation from all the people in Miri.

“The society must have the will and discipline in this matter for the safety and health of everybody,” he added.

On the action of compounding by the authorities, Lee urged everybody to abide by the SOPs and not wait until people were about to be compounded before they rush to comply with the SOPs.

“Once again, I appeal to all parties to cooperate by complying with the SOPs so that we can reduce the cases and return to green zone status and enable the economic sector to reopen,” said Lee.
