MUKAH: A child’s potential needs to be developed and nurtured by not only their parents, but also their kindergarten’s teachers and committee members, said Kemas deputy director-general of operations Ahmad Kamal Idris Nawawi.

“I hope these efforts will continue to be implemented to achieve our objective for the sake of human capital development.

“A child’s growth and potential should be developed along with other aspects, not just limited to academic achievements alone,” he said while officiating at the state-level ‘Kemas Kindergarten Potential Day 2019’ at UiTM Sarawak Mukah Branch, yesterday.

He added that along with personal development, children should be given the chance to discover their own potential and talent, especially in sports.

“Sports require skills needed that can produce children who are healthy and active and may this lead to children who think positively and rationally, as well as possess self-confidence,” he said.

In the meantime, he said parents play an important role as they are a child’s first educators.

“Therefore, the support and involvement of parents in various outdoor and sports activities as well as their children’s studies is important and meaningful to them,” he explained.

He also said that Kemas will play their role as a government agency that acts as a support system to parents and the community to monitor, evaluate, and identify children’s potential and self-development in the mental, physical, and spiritual aspects.

In addition, he also said that process is underway in choosing a kindergarten teacher as a ‘Kindergarten Teacher Icon’ (‘Ikon Guru Tabika’) because teachers play an important role in a child’s learning process and will influence their development until they become adults.
