Party-goers hit with compounds

BINTULU: Compounds were issued to 60 party-goers for violating Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs) following a raid at an entertainment outlet in Park city Commerce Square Phase 5 at Jalan Tun Ahmad Zaidi early Sunday (Aug 15).

According to Bintulu police chief Supt Zulkipli Suhaili, a team of police raided the premises at about 12.10am today (Aug 15).

“Prior to the raid, my men were on their routine patrolling around the area, when they heard a loud noise coming from the premises,” said Zulkipli in a statement.

The team led by ASP Mohd Razif Mohd Yusuf arrived at area and went into the premises as the main door was unlocked.

“We issued compounds to 42 men and 18 women for violating Covid-19 SOPs,” he said.

The compounds were issued under Regulation 17(1) of Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Amendment) Act 2021.

Meanwhile, a 33-year-old man, believed to be the premises’ owner, has been detained.

“The man was arrested under Section 5 (1) of the Entertainment Ordinance 2001 and Regulation 17 (2) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures Within the Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2021 for operating without a license and carrying out prohibited activities during this movement restriction period,” he said.

During the raid, the police also seized five units of televisions, various types of sound equipment, sales receipts and cash amounting to RM2,924.

Supt Zulkipli also reminded people in this district to continue to adhere to the SOPs in order to reduce Covid-19 cases.
