Party-hoppers treated with suspicion

KUCHING: Party-hoppers jumping into Parti Sarawak Bersatu’s (PSB) bandwagon may not play out in favour of the opposition party in future polls, according to political observer Datuk Peter Minos.

He said from past observations, fair and right-minded voters tended to see and treat such politicians with caution and suspicion.

He was commenting on PSB recently welcoming independent Selangau MP Baru Bian and Batu Lintang assemblyman See Chee How including some 80 per cent of ex-Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) members into the party.

“It is difficult to tell, if these party hoppers (win in the election), where they will jump next. As we see in Sabah, once a ‘political froggie’ jumps, the jumping never ends, depending on what are in it for them personally.

“Parties and voters favour stability and certainty and these party hoppers are not the ones they would feel endeared or comfortable with. So, I do not know how PSB will survive with these people inside, even if their followers join them.

“Whether PSB will do well in the coming state election by roping in the disgruntled and unhappy politicians, only time will tell and only the voters can determine,” he told New Sarawak Tribune today.

Minos said Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) need not worry of PSB’s recent attacks towards the state government which are seen as all rhetorics and hot air.

“Under the able and steady hands of Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, GPS has already proven itself to be a coalition party that can lead and guide Sarawak well; develop and protect Sarawak’s interests; can get things done and achieved; and can be relied upon in both good and bad times,” he claimed.

“This is a track record that voters value, not the empty rhetorics and needless criticisms that PSB and the oppositions love to live with and thrive in. It’s best that GPS must not be too distracted by the opposition’s criticisms and provocations, severe as they may be, but instead to just focus on helping Sarawak and its people in all ways possible,” he added.
