SIBU: Veteran politician Datuk Peter Minos is seeing light at the end of the tunnel at long last.

Should the anti-hop law become a reality – and some quarters expect it will by September –  it will bring the curtains down on the free-wheeling days of switching party allegiance without any sense of accountability.

Minos said the tabling of the anti-hop Bill was a wise move as it can help bring some sanity and stability in Malaysian politics.

“Malaysians are fed up and sick of political squabbles partly caused by party-hopping,” he said in a press statement today.

According to Minos, party hoppers had wreaked political havoc, causing irritation and confusion among the voters.

“Hoppers do not have in their mind and vocabulary anything like loyalty, allegiance and love for party or people.

“Their game is one of self-aggrandisement and the rest is how to outwit the voters, people and parties. Great bluffers they are,” he said.

Minos also stressed that it is true that party hoppers have no principle.

“Their principle is self-interest and they go where the money or positions are. That is all. If there is no money or position they would not hop,” he said.

He noted that the hard work and determination of Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office (Parliament and Law) Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar has made the tabling of the Bill possible.

It is expected to be tabled in Parliament tomorrow (July 18).
