MIRI: Parti Islam Semalaysia (PAS) has expressed its full support for  the federal government’s decision to ban athletes from Israel to take part in the World Para Swimming Championship 2019 to be held in Kuching from July 29 to Aug 4 this year.

Its state commissioner Jofri Jaraiee (pic) said the decision would not have any negative impact on Malaysia as the country had no diplomatic ties with Israel.

He added that the move also reflected the country’s seriousness about issues affecting Israel and Palestine.

He also commended the state government’s decision to abide by the federal government’s move despite having immigration autonomy.

“It would be illogical for Sarawak, despite being a model state in practising racial unity and rejecting sports discrimination and injustice, to allow Israelis to enter the state as Israel is practising discriminatory policies against Palestinians,” he said.

Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad recently said that the government was adamant with its decision on banning Israeli athletes from taking part in the World Para Swimming Championship 2019 to be held in Kuching from July 29 to Aug 4 this year.
