Past and present leaders place Sarawak on the right track towards a high income state

KUCHING: Sarawak is on the right track to propel the state as a developed state with high income by 2030.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the present state leaders are able to lead the state well because they have learned and been groomed by the previous leadership.

“On a personal note, I would like to express my appreciation to the former deputy chief minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu Numpang. He was not only our colleague but also our mentor when he was leading the state government together with the then chief minister Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud.

“Through them, we are the second generation of leaders today that has been groomed and guided by the top leadership,” he said.

He said this when officiating the launching of the Gawai Antu Documentary at Borneo Cultures Museum (BCM) here today.

The Premier added together that he and his Deputy Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas are the result of the previous leaders who are dedicated.

“Of course, situations change and leaders will change. At the same time, we as the leaders have to adapt ourselves to the changes surrounding us.

“And we are giving emphasis on education, cultural interaction which we believe will be the basis of our harmonious society in Sarawak,” he said.

Abang Johari, who is also the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) chairman, also said the state will continue to look for the best ways to harness its resources in order to provide a good environment to the people in the state.

“Datuk Patinggi Jabu, with your guidance and I pray to God that you will have a long life to see the development taking place in Sarawak,” said Abang Johari.

Earlier, Jabu in his speech said that he have for the past 48 years of his life, he have been nurtured and guided to work together with Abang Johari and other Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) leaders and members and PBB culture of deep rooted synergistic teamwork encapsulated within the hallmark of ‘Berkorban Bersatu’.

“Throughout our joint political struggle to develop Sarawak to become a very politically stable, harmonious and peaceful and well developed state to give the people prosperity and progress, we have been confronted with many shapes and forms of challenges, social, economic, political in nature.

“Through our deep commitment nurtured by PBB culture, we have steadfastly and loyally synergised our collective and collaborative strength and henceforth survived and emerged triumphant and victorious over these many challenges of trials and tribulations.

“As a result of the continuing visionary policy of dedicated leadership spearheaded by PBB which is now becoming a very strong Sarawak GPS government, as well as under the Premier’s leadership, we are now witnessing many unprecedented successes,” he said.
