KAPIT : Hulu Rajang Member of Parliament, Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong recently officiated at the closing of the final Local Agenda 21 and Community Development Programmes for Belaga Zone held at Uma Sekapan Panjang in Belaga Dstrict recently.

In his speech, Ugak lauded Kapit District Council (KDC) for its success in organising the programmes in six localities this year.

The programmes focused on longhouse cleanliness as well as the cleanliness, protection and preservation of the environment.

He was happy to note that two of this term’s Kapit District Councillors, Maren Uma Among Matu and Ugu Matu, came from the Sekapan community. On development, Ugak said the proposed Belaga Water Front project by the council could serve as a new landscape for Belaga town.

“The Water Front project will provide a venue for festivals such as Belaga Rain Forest Challenge and Belaga Fest,” he said. Ugak also pointed out that the Public Works Department was expected to undertake the repair work on the Jiwa Murni road from Menjawah to Belaga.

The Member of Parliament announced a grant of RM20,000 for the Vi l lage Security and Development Committee (JKKK) of Uma Sekapan Panjang and another RM6,000 to the Women Bureau of the JKKK for next year.
