KUCHING: Borneo Medical Centre (BMC) has clarified that the positive Covid-19 case (the 576th and the 18th death) in the state last Saturday was not admitted to their facility on July 9 as reported.

BMC said the 72-year-old local patient was presented to their emergency department with respiratory symptoms and suspicion of viral infection.

“Urgent tests confirmed the possibility of Covid-19 infection and he was immediately referred to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH),” the medical centre said in a media statement posted on its Facebook page.

It said all medical staff members who attended to patients at its emergency department wore standard or enhanced personal protective equipment (PPE).

“Decontamination in compliance with the Ministry of Health (MOH) guidelines was carried out immediately after the patient left the emergency department,” it said.
BMC also said all staff members who had close contact with the patient had been quarantined as a precaution and would undergo the Covid-19 polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test before returning to work.

“We also wish to reassure the general public that our centre is well equipped to detect Covid-19 patients. We have well-trained staff members using PPE including in-house PCR, antigen and serology tests,” it said.

BMC also extend its sincerest condolences to the family of the deceased.
