KUCHING: Underprivileged children in the state need to be paid more attention so that they could also be cared for, said Pertubuhan Bahu Yang Membantu (Helping Shoulder) patron Datuk Normah Ibrahim.

“I am very keen to help the children in the state as they are still young and require basic needs,” she told reporters after handing over a cheque amounting to RM10,000 at Pusat Jagaan Nur Murni (Rumah Amal Nur Murni) here yesterday.

During the event, she also presented “duit raya” to the children at the home.

Normah, who is also chief operating officer of Red Profile Sdn Bhd – a name that is already synonymous with shoes – said although the organisation was formed in West Malaysia, she is eager to help children, especially those who have been abused.

“Our organisation which is based in Kuala Lumpur is mainly made up of volunteers from various backgrounds as we are not selecting people based on their position, but based on their charitable efforts and sincerity to help the poor,” she stressed.

Asking on why she insists on helping children in Sarawak, she said it was one of things that she loves to do and also hoped to raise awareness among members of the public.

Normah also added that she has been involved in charity work for more than fifteen years.

“I also helped to invest in building houses for the poor because I love helping those who really need it,” she said.
