PBB branches call for Nancy as GE 14 candidate

KUCHING: PBB N25 Simunjan and N26 Gedong branches want Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Dato’ Sri Hajah Nancy Binti Shukri, 56, to be retained as candidate for Batang Sadong parliamentary seat in the upcoming 14th General Election (GE14).

State assemblyman for N25 Simunjan, Awla Bin Dris, who is also the branch chairman said this was one of the resolutions proposed by the delegates at the joint PBB N25 Simunjan and N26 Gedong branches delegates annual general meeting (AGM) at Penview Inn last Monday.

The other resolution proposed was that the two elected ADUNs – Awla Dris, the ADUN for Simunjan and Datuk Nohd Narodin Majasi, ADUN for Gedong to be retained as the branch chiefs. Awla hoped that Nancy would not be replaced by somebody else. “Hopefully, Dato’ Sri Nancy won’t be replaced by someone else. Even if she is replaced, we will request again to the Chief Minister to retain her as candidate for Batang Sadong parliamentary seat,” Awla said.

Meanwhile, Nancy , who officiated at the opening of the joint AGM said she felt touched by the support and she felt it as a trust for her also to ensure that the responsibility entrusted to her in Batang Sadong parliamentary was done.

In her speech, Nancy said in PBB, they are one big family and election for leadership at the grassroots level was not to defeat one another but to ensure the party is always strong. Every branch member plays important role and those holding positions in the party are entrusted to carry out their duties, and those entrusted with responsibilities must ensure that their responsibilities are carried out efficiently, she pointed out. Nancy also said PBB today has 40 seats out of 82 seats and it shows it is a very strong party and PBB has never been defeated. In PBB, the branch chiefs are the ADUN.

She said PBB must be strong and must speak with one voice. She said in PBB it is important for everyone to cooperate to ensure PBB continues to remain the backbone of Barisan Nasional and party of reference. Nancy also reminded members to be well versed with current issues and use the social media wisely and correctly. She said today there were a lot issues in the social media especially those touching on the leadership especially at the federal level and also at the state-level especially on MA63.

“We need to be very careful when issuing our statement because we don’t want our state leadership to have conflict with the federal leadership.

We know that the state leadership and the national leadership are one in hearts but there are others who want to take the opportunity,” she said. “As such the young people need to play their role to ensure that they don’t fall into slandering and inciting that are happening in the social media,” she said, adding that there are always people who are looking for ways to destroy PBB and the good exisring relationship.
