KUCHING: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) is holding its special convention for party branches in the southern zone tomorrow (Sunday).
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg who is PBB president will officiate at the event at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK).
A total of 1,254 delegates from 26 PBB branches are expected to attend.
Among the party branches in the southern zone are Opar, Tasik Biru, Tanjung Datu, Pantai Damai, Demak Laut, Tupong, Samariang, Satok, Padungan, Pending, Batu Lintang and Kota Sentosa.
The others are Batu Kitang, Batu Kawa, Asajaya, Muara Tuang, Stakan, Serembu, Mambong, Tarat, Tebedu, Kedup, Bukit Semuja, Sadong Jaya, Simunjan and Gedong.
PBB Southern Zone special convention organising chairman Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said among the issues that will be raised during the convention are on land and housing.
A talk titled ‘Strategic Sharing: Native Customary Rights (NCR) Land’ will be presented by PBB vice president Datuk Roland Sagah who is also Agriculture, Native Land and Regional Development Assistant Minister.
Meanwhile fellow PBB vice president Dr Annuar Rapaee who is Housing Assistant Minister will give a talk on housing issues in the state.
PBB assistant secretary general and Law, State-Federal Relations and Project Monitoring Assistant Minister Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali will deliver a talk titled ‘GPS Success Story with CM’s Initiative’.
The acceptance of the motion by the delegates will be done by PBB senior vice president and Education, Science and Technology Research Minister Datuk Amar Michael Manyin Jawong, who will present it to the chief minister.
“I advise the delegates to listen and understand current issues in fighting for the rights of Sarawak and its people. With this explanation, we are able to face and repel all accusations of the opposition that are not true at all,” Fadillah said.
The PBB Southern Zone special convention will be the last of four series of back to back conventions starting from the Northern Zone in Miri on Sept 5, followed by the Betong Zone in Betong on Sept 26 and the Central Zone in Sibu on Oct 3.
The special convention will take place in a new normal under the Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs) to curb the spread of the pandemic. The theme of the convention is ‘Sarawak Rights Prioritised, Development Empowered’.
