KUCHING: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) leaders are all set to bring a brighter future and greater development for Sarawak in the coming years.

The party’s Triennial Delegates Meeting (TGM) scheduled to take place on June 17 to 19 at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) here is set to receive approximately 2,000 leaders and delegates from 82 PBB branches attending.

The first day of the TGM will see the party’s Youth Wing kick off its meeting followed by the main party on June 18 and the Women’s Wing on June 19.

Moreover, there may be debate on motions that will bring the minds of the delegates in preparation to a more dynamic era in the future for Sarawak and its people.

The New Sarawak Tribune reached out to several PBB leaders on their hopes and expectations for the TGM.

(PBB vice president)

The TGM will be held after a long lapse due to the COVID-19 pandemic so it is highly anticipated by our grassroot leaders and they are very keen as well as eager to attend. One of the main focuses is to ensure that PBB is stable, strong  and consolidated as it continues to be the backbone of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS). The result of the recent state election is a testament that the party has strong support from the people of Sarawak. I hope the solidarity among party members remains strong in continuously supporting Premier Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg’s development agendas for Sarawak. We are together as one.

I have been with the party for more than 30 years, witnessing the party’s struggles and leadership changes that were done with the wellbeing of all Sarawakians at heart. We must uphold the spirit and convention of consensus as the basis of our struggle for the future. I hope that the younger generation in particular will learn and practise what our elders have sacrificed to ensure harmony and unity. When politics is stable, we can plan better for the future.  The future is ours if we all work hard together.

The upcoming PBB Convention will be a stepping stone in solidifying the involvement of youth  in the party. The expected amendment to the party’s constitution will allow a new Wing comprising members aged 18-28 in the party. Moving forward, PBB has to remain relevant and, as part of its struggle, uphold the rights of Sarawak and Sarawakians and youth must play a large part in this endeavour. In the future, I am confident that PBB will continue to be the backbone to  the  GPS state government and together with the other component parties, play a pivotal role in fighting for the cause of all Sarawakians be it in terms of economy, state rights as well as welfare. As for myself, I will be committed to executing any task or responsibility needed from me as a party member.

We are looking forward to this TGM as there will be policy amendments within the party that will affect the Youth, Women and Main Wing.  The Women’s Wing in particular would like to see the changes that will bring in more inclusivity in terms of women representatives in the Main Wing. In addition, we also want to make sure that PBB continues to be united as it is the principle that we hold. As the backbone of  GPS, we also need to be very strong and maintain the political stability and harmony in Sarawak. This is so that we can focus on the development of Sarawak and the wellbeing of the people.

This convention will see a new era of change in Sarawak and PBB will play a very vital role towards this change. This is because the president of PBB and the Premier of Sarawak is the proponent and architect to this change.
