KUCHING: Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah has described the suggestion that the proposed anti-party hopping bill get Sarawak’s consent as a good one.

The Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) vice-president said this was because Malaysia was formed by three entities – Sabah, Sarawak and Malaya.

“Anything to do with important decisions (such as this one) will need consent from the other members (of Malaysia),” he said here on Monday (April 18).

Abdul Karim, who is also the Asajaya assemblyman, was commenting on the remarks by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Parliament and Law) Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar with regard to Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s suggestion that the anti-party hopping bill, once passed, must get Sarawak’s consent first before being enforced.

When asked if this would be discussed in the coming Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting next month, he said that it was going to be in the form of a Bill, then it would be debated and deliberated.

To another question on whether or not the anti-party hopping bill would be one of the more interesting bills, he said that “it will be, it might be or it might not be.”

“I do not have it specifically in detail, but this year’s Bill to be tabled at the DUN will be interesting.”
