KUCHING: The setting up of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) presidential council is a good move, said Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) vice-president Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

“It (presidential council) is a good move. There is no charter or agreement being signed. But it is a presidential council where once in a while the party leaders will discuss on important issues that affect the country and how they should move forward,” he said.

He was asked to comment on the establishment of the presidential council in a press conference after presenting the Excellent Craft Award to two Sarawakian craft artists at the Sarawak Craft Council Showroom, Steamship Building Kuching Waterfront on Friday (Dec 18).

Karim said the presidential council set is a good platform for all parties that are within PN and in the government.

When asked would the presidential council lead to any possibility of a coalition, he said, “Well, this is a loose coalition and there is no bonding of the parties whereby they sign the agreement.

“Even the federal government is set up by loose coalition of PN, Muafakat Nasional and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS). So, there is no agreement,” he said.

“Loose coalition is still okay, but what is important is that they can work together and don’t start backstabbing each other,” he pointed out.

On Thursday (Dec 17), parties in the PN government agreed to form a presidential council which will comprise leaders of each party as a platform to discuss government policies and to strengthen relationship among the respective parties in the government.
