KUCHING: A coffee table book titled ‘Wing of Change — The Wanita PBB Journey’ was officially launched on Sunday (Oct 25).

According to Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Women vice-chief Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri, the book was conceptualised by Tan Sri Empiang Jabu prior to stepping down from the position of PBB Women chief.

“We felt that there is a need to document the struggles of women in PBB to be used as a reference for anyone interested.

“We tried our best to collect as much information as we can,” she said.

She said this at a press conference held at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) following the book launching ceremony by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg during the PBB Southern Zone mini convention on Sunday (Oct 25).

Nancy, who is also the head of the editorial committee, said the book has been in the works since 2017.

She added that the editorial committee had discussed on ways to produce a book that would not only serve as a memoir, but also as a reference book.

“In terms of content, this book is unlike a biography. It tells stories about women before and after joining PBB.”

She also said the book would inspire more women to join PBB.

“When we look at it, women usually opt for a different career, which makes them indirectly involved in politics as they are usually in the background.

“Which is why we tried to collect as much information and studied how they became involved with politics before and after PBB,” she added.

Nancy said the book is now on sale at a discounted price of RM50 from its original price of RM100.

The book will be in two languages, English and Bahasa Malaysia, with the English version now available while the Bahasa Malaysia version titled ‘Sayap Perjuangan — Perjalanan Wanita PBB’ will be out soon.

The 180-page publication also includes the chief minister’s interview on the present and future expectations of women in leadership roles in the state, in regards to PBB Women and also the importance of reaching out to all levels of society to serve Sarawak better.
