KUCHING: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Youth has lauded the move to field a young candidate in Batang Lupar.

The constituency will see a young new face, Shafizan Kepli, who replaces Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim. The latter has decided to step down.

Shafizan, 37, is the youngest Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate and he’s the PBB Youth chief for Beting Maro branch and an exco member of Sarawak National Youth Organization (SABERKAS).

“It bodes well for PBB Youth for GPS to field a young candidate and this is proof of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s commitment to reforms in leadership that has synergy from both the experienced and the new ones,” the youth wing said in a statement, today.

Added the statement: “The Premier involves the young people who he believes can contribute to the politics of the country by providing ideas and new approaches that are relevant to the current situation.

“And at the same time, restore the rights for Sarawak as stipulated in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).”

Shafizan is up against Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) Well @ Maxwell Rojis in a straight fight.

Meanwhile, the youth wing also thanked Abang Johari for re-nominating the wing’s youth vice chief Lukanisman Awang Sauni for the Sibuti seat.

Lukanisman will square off with PH candidate Zolhaidah Suboh and Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak’s (PBDS) Bobby Wlliam in a three-cornered fight.
