KUCHING: Peace and unity among the multi-racial and multi-religious community is the best example that can be highlighted as an attraction in Sarawak.

Teacher and popular social media influencer Ahmad Faizal Osman said the strong unity in Sarawak is based on a sense of acceptance and of belonging among its community.

“Intermarriage is common and not considered as taboo by the community here and they can accept it with an open heart.

“When there is openness and acceptance, we will feel excited to learn the language and culture of the multi-racial community until finally, we will feel like part of the family,” said Ahmad, popularly known as Cikgu Emmet during a Merdeka@Komuniti programme organised by the Information Department here in conjunction with Merdeka Month.

“In Sarawak, we can be proud of the delicious local food such as Sarawak laksa, kolok mee and more.

“Loyalty to the country can also be shown by supporting and buying locally produced goods,” he said.

Elaborating, he said at the school level, the spirit of patriotism could be inculcated by holding various interesting activities such as flag colouring competitions, flying the Jalur Gemilang and Sarawak flags as well as creative costume competitions, as have been done at his school (Sekolah Kebangsaan Seduku, Lingga in Sri Aman).

In conjunction with the Merdeka Month, the Communications and Multimedia Ministry through the Information Department organised a Merdeka@Komuniti programme aimed at instilling patriotism among the people.
