KUCHING: A total of 70 people were given financial contribution from the Association of Malay Importers and Traders of Motor Vehicles Malaysia (PEKEMA) Sarawak Branch in conjunction with the Pre-Christmas celebration here yesterday.

Among the beneficiaries were children, the disabled (OKU), the poor/underprivileged (OKM), single mothers and senior citizens.

The contribution was presented by the President of PEKEMA Sarawak Branch, Tan Sri Dato Sri Abang Khalid Abang Marzuki who was accompanied by the Deputy President of PEKEMA Sarawak Branch, Ismail Abang Saufi which took place at the PEKEMA office in Green Road.

Other than the donation, the recipients were also given souvenir packs and then treated with lunch. Speaking during the celebration, Khalid said that the PEKEMA foundation sought to identify and approach those who needed help either from individuals, associations or charitable bodies.

“Although the general public knows that the current economic situation is not good, it does not become a barrier to us to continue to provide donations and special assistance to those in need. “This is the only way we can re-contribute to the needy community and we hope to continue this kind of activity in the future,” he said.

Khalid added that the foundation has been contributing to the community since its formation. “This year we have contributed about RM405,932 from January to December 2017.

“The amount of contribution donated included financial assistance for the disadvantaged patients and victims of natural disasters,” he disclosed.
