Pelagus assemblyman Wilson Nyabong Ijang has proposed for a Rural Growth Centre (RGC) to be established at Ng Pelagus in his constituency.

Since the delineation of the state constituency in 2015, he pointed out that Pelagus does not have a small town, adding that Merit sub-district is already taken over by the Belaga constituency.

He said the RGC would be timely as it can be a gateway to Merit-Anap-Sangan and to Bintulu once the ferry service at Ng Tulie is operating and the ongoing road construction from Ng Tulie to Ng Pelagus is completed.

“I am confident that this RGC will fast track development due to its strategic location nearby Pelagus Rapid and Pelagus National National Park then thereby we can revive the abandoned Pelagus Resort.

“There are many tourist attractions nearby such as the longhouses within proximity, jungle tracking, and we can even build the cable car service to see the scenic view of Pelagus Rapid and supply of exotic freshwater fish where the local community can have a daily catch for the tourists to name a few.

“I earnestly hope that the government will consider my request to create RGC for Pelagus,” he said this when debating the Supply Bill (2023) on Thursday (Nov 24).

On the site for the proposed Agriculture Integrated Training Centre at Nanga Mujang in Kapit that has been identified and approved, he expressed hopes for the government to start construction next year.

“In addition to this, I would like to request the government to establish a permanent food park in Pelagus in order to create job, business opportunities, and to provide sustainable income for the participants.

“I would also like to request more quote than the previous year for rubber planters in Kapit and Bukit Mabong district,” he added.
