Penan man still not found

Firemen and policeman along with the villagers are doing their best to search for the victim.

MIRI: A 65-year-old Penan man was reported still missing after failing to return home on yesterday (8 September).

The victim was said to have left the house for fishing activity on August 25, 2022 around the upper river area of Kampung Batu Bungan Mulu and has not returned home ever since.

His family members alerted the authorities for search assistance as they are concerned about his safety.

Firemen received the distressed call around 10am on Thursday regarding to the incident.

A total of 26 persons comprising five from BOMBA, one policeman and 20 villagers were divided into two teams and despatched to gather information and commence with search and rescue operations in the forest upstream of Kampung Batu Bungan and around Melinau River.

As at press time, the victim has yet to be found and operation had to be postponed at 4.40pm on Thursday as the rain started pouring down, with the search and rescue operation set to continue yesterday.

The victim has also been said to have gone missing before as this is the fourth time he has gone missing.
