KUCHING: A double-storey semi concrete house in Kampung Merasam, Limbang, was destroyed in a fire on Wednesday afternoon.

The house belongs to Kabima Fire Voluntary Unit (PBS) chairman, Penghulu Ahmad Bini.

According to the State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), seven personnel in a fire engine and EMRS vehicle from Limbang fire station led by its chief, Tawang Lingem rushed to the scene, which was 53km from the fire station, upon being notified at 2.04pm.

A total of 29 personnel, including Kabima PBS volunteers put out the fire and prevented it from further damaging the house. They were assisted by five policemen and seven personnel from the Prison Department.

“The operation commander reported that 90 per cent of the house, measuring 48×68 feet, were destroyed in the incident,” the department said.

No casualties and injuries were reported as the victims were not at home at the time of the incident. 

The cause of the fire and estimated loss have yet to be ascertained.
