Local Government Assistant Minister Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil threw a challenge at Pujut assemblyman Dr Ting Tiong Choon to contest for Marudi seat during the next state election.

“I challenge him (Ting) to contest against me in Marudi in the coming state election,” he said during a press conference at the state assembly premises yesterday.

“This is because I’ve found that the Pujut assemblyman has been going around my area for five to six months now.

“He shouldn’t have gone to Marudi just to find faults there and incite the people to split into different factions.”

Penguang, who is also Marudi assemblyman, also talked about roads, electricity, water and riverbank project for his constituency.

“I am new in politics but don’t underestimate me as I am a veteran of 36 years in the civil service.

“Dr Ting, who has never worked in the government service before, shouldn’t interfere in my business and disrespect me. My advice to him is, ‘Don’t teach a duck how to swim’.”

He further said that Dr Ting questioned the acquisition of the site for a petrol kiosk at Marudi town.

“Dr Ting claimed that the state government had bought the land at a very low price of RM5 per square foot,” he said.

“Does he not know the difference in the price of land, selling land and premium land?”
