BUKIT GANTANG: “This is not to show off but it is called the spirit of patriotism and love for the country,” said government pensioner Mohd Daud Rasol, referring to hundreds of the Jalur Gemilang (national flag) installed around his house as his way to celebrate the national month.

The 59-year-old said, in August every year, with help from his family, he would find ideas to put up something at his residence in Kampung PPRT Larut Permai, Air Kuning near here, as part of the national month celebration. He revealed that this year he installed 200 pieces of Jalur Gemilang around the house apart from creating flowers using the flags to beautify the area.

“I spent RM500 to buy the Jalur Gemilang, as well as used car tyres and other decorative flowers in the garden. “I have installed the Jalur Gemilang flags and decorated my house every August for the past three years as my small way to express my patriotism and my love for the country but this year’s is slightly in a bigger scale as I am involved in the national competition in conjunction with National Day,” he said when met at his home here.

Mohd Daud, who is from Melaka, said he was assisted by his wife Jamilah Taib, 51, and their children in his exciting endeavour. “I am involved in this fun initiative not just to show off but it is for the love of the country. “I also hope the younger generation will emulate this small gesture and to motivate them to appreciate the country’s independence and to fly Jalur Gemilang at their homes,” he said. – Bernama
